He is not part of my immediate family or an ancestor, but I thought he deserved a mention for doing the decent thing and letting us survive.<\/p>\n<p>Walked into Norwich this morning to change 400 Rand back into sterling: just over \u00a326! I shall try not to spend it all in riotous living.<\/p>\n<p>SAFARI<\/p>\n<p>At the angle between<br \/>\nrhino and my oh so fragile body<br \/>\ncrouches the ranger<\/p>\n<p>He makes strange noises<br \/>\nmotions me to place a thin tree<br \/>\nbetween myself and the <br \/>\nunaccommodating beast, then<\/p>\n<p>gestures, like Gandalf<br \/>\nwith snake stick, wand, light sabre<\/p>\n<p>holds firm, speaks<br \/>\nrhino language<\/p>\n<p>The beast listens, <br \/>\nits tiny eyes fixed,<br \/>\nconsidering its options, then<\/p>\n<p>with its eloquent foot<br \/>\nstirs up the dust<br \/>\nfrom which we are made<\/p>\n<p>feels it has made<br \/>\nits point<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is the rhino that almost charged us in South Africa.
